Are there any places in the South of France where a person without a lot of money could afford to live?

- Yes. The rough parts of Marsailles are pretty cheap. Reason being it's full of immigrants (legal or otherwise) from North Africa. A working knowledge of arabic would be useful. If that doesn't appeal drive East across the border into Italy. The area around San Remo is much nicer and fairly cheap. Ian M
- Languedoc-Roussillon is quieter and cheaper than Cote d'Azur. Costs are lower to the West and away from the coast. Prices are very much cheaper in the mountains, but it is very isolated. Peter
- there are tons of places in the south of France where you could live without a lot of money as long as you dont expect a life of luxury, avoid the big tourist spots and stay away from city centers.
