best places to live

Pagans and Wiccans. DO you live in a city and if so, do you find it harder to achieve a feeling of closeness?

With your Goddess/God due to not being in a rural setting ? Do you feel as close to nature in the city as you might in the countryside?

  1. I am a country dweller. : )
  2. I live in a very small city, but surrounded by trees, fields, and a lake. I'm more of a water person, so I'm more comfortable around oceans and lakes and rivers than the countryside. But the closeness will always be in your heart, even if you're surrounded by iron and cement.
  3. It is certainly easier to be in the country and feel close to nature. On the other hand, it is easier for me to be "green" and environmentally responsible living in the city at this point in my life. I am close to work, school, and where I shop. I can take the bus or a bike instead of a car and i can minimize my carbon footprint living in the city. But the city I live in is pretty special. i am a 15 minute walk from the base of the Sandia Mountains and a fairly short trip to the Bosque, which is the river valley here in Albuquerque. If I want to take a car, I can be in national forest in about 30 minutes. But I think to more directly answer your question, I would say only a little - because nature is more than a geography. There are plants and animals where I live in the city too. Nature is the sun and rain, moon and stars... It is inescapable. In some ways, living in the city brings me closer to nature because I am much more constantly aware of the abuses she receives from our current culture and lifestyle. It motivates me to want to help improve conditions of the water, the air and the soil. I think it makes me more active in pursuing balance both for myself and my community. It makes me want to create and protect parks and green space where I live. Admittedly, I do miss living on a farm and being able to walk out of my house and be surrounded by empty fields. It did make some things easy. But Wicca isn't about easy.
  4. It shouldn't make much difference... I happen to live in a rural area however I seldom leave my house or even look out the window. I could be in downtown New York for all I know, LOL All my activities are indoor. Yet regardless of that, I love nature and feel the presence of the Goddess every day. I know I can go outside whenever I wish but I have important things to do indoors... sewing, jewelry making and communicating with people on the computer, to name just a few. No matter where you live, the Goddess is there. Trees are beautiful but you don't need to be near one to feel the presence of the Goddess, I think. Blessings, Jean
  5. Dear PC, it is actually physically painful for me to think about this, but in the country side, I do feel closer, much closer, to Mother Nature, the real natural world that I love. I live in a big city, in a nice upper class neighborhood surrounded with trees and parks, but it is just so much better when I am out in a rural setting. Two of my sisters have property in the foothills of California, and going there and seeing those millions of stars at night, smelling the country air, knowing that there are wild animals in the area, all these things nourish my heart and fill my soul and spirit, as a pantheist and as a Witch. The magic that I do there has so much power,so much that I am able to bring back home with me. In truth, I have had my Witch magic in me for such a long time, I can bring it on by holding a flower, or an insect, or just by standing still, but the heavy scent of country air and the sight of all those stars have lives of their own, and that is strong stuff for me. Blessings sis, Lady M
  6. I live in the suburb, halfway between the city proper and the countryside. When I'm fully in either, I feel quite close to her, though for fully different reasons. In the country, there's all this beauty and elemental wonder all around. In the city, I'm surrounded by people made by and for her, not to mention the product of all we have created with the potential given to us. It's a different closeness, but it's there.
  7. i know i nam not a true wiccan or pagan, but i felt i have enoufgh in common and enough respect for these faiths that i must put in my too sense... i mean being too sensitive and too sensory for an ugly squanderer's paradise like las vegas wjhere i dwell most of the time. but... my mom-in-law lives in arizona where i spent my formative years with nothing but my love and trust of a higher power to sustain me through heresy blasphemy and abusive authority. i am fine now but only for that reason...and in the beauty of the wild untamed desert i find that part of me again now that my trials have lessened and there is more time for gazing at stars and seeing meteor showers at abnormal times and for beauty being here, i can live in that city of sin for a while more until the spirits have no more work for me there. tonight however, i am going to sit by tyhe lake and let them sing to me on the wind. i go back tomorrow. (sigh)
