best places to live

What cities within 40 minutes of Las Vegas are decent to live in?

I just had a job interview in Las Vegas & it looks like we're going to be moving there. What areas are the best "family" places to live within 40 minutes of the city? I want good schools & a family environment :)

  1. Reno North Las Vegas or West..Just don't live down the strip alot of loons.
  2. Boulder City, Henderson, and North Las Vegas are the only other cities within 40 minutes. There are also communities like Summerlin (or SNOBerlin as the locals who don't live there refer to it as), The Lakes, etc. The population is very ethnically diverse now. To the NE is Nellis AFB, so stay away just for the noise factor, although we all have fighter jets flying overhead. There is a working pig farm in NE North Las Vegas, which was there before all the homes were built, so stay west of it if you look in NLV, as the wind goes west to east more often. Schools are in trouble, as the governor wants teachers to take a 6% pay cut, along with other state employees, and many are deciding if it goes through, they are leaving. Private school would be your best bet (pun intended) there. Buying a house is cheap at least. Quite honestly, you have to search for pockets of good neighborhoods in each area. Not a great place to raise a kid. A realtor would be your best bet and concentrate on Boulder City.
  3. have your ever seen what 40 minutes away from las vegas looks like??? i'm sorry to hear that you're moving there...
  4. Henderson . It is a really nice place. I live here. I work in LV and it is like 10 mins. N. Las VEgas will take you much longer, commuting. My friends at work have long rides to and from, Traffic. Boulder City was mentioned and it is really nice there but again a long commute and gas is going up weekly. I do like Henderson and now is the time to buy a house. Prices are very low. Good Luck
  5. The other areas, are summerlain, n las vegas, henderson, green valley. But there all pretty much the same. You can't even tell when your driving from one area to the other. I live up by centennial. I love that area. But I work in summerlin so not that bad of a drive. If you work in henderson then you don't want to live where I live.
  6. There is summerlin and boulder city. There are many suburbs and towns nearby in Las Vegas, you can also check the map.
