If Global Warming is real do we need to live on floating cities in the future?

- Um. If Global Warming is real the most likely thing they would do is dig from the ocean floor and add to the continental plates... Not build some giant floater
- I think you should turn on the A/C and open all the windows this summer.
- There are couple of hundred feet of sea level rise if all the ice melted. That isn't going to change it any more than the after the ice age. That would take thousands of years. Even to melt Greenland would take over 2,000 year assuming there was a 2 degree rise. Unless you are planing on living for hundreds of years or are currently neck deep in water, i wouldn't worry about it. The maximum predicted from the UN which historically greatly exaggerates the danger is one foot in 50 years.
- thats a good idea isnt that pretty much wat italy is because it has all those rivers and ppl have made floating gardens before and ppl in the middle of the country should be fine if the icebergs melt unless there that big?!
- No, there is not nearly enough ice on Earth to completely submerge all of Earth's land. The danger with sea level rise is not that we will drown, it is that we may lose our coastlines. This represents very significant economic problems, considering most of the world's largest cities are on coastlines. (Imagine how much it would cost society if cities like NYC, LA, London, Shanghai, Mumbai, etc. were flooded).
- Why not live there now? Shrimp and seafood lovers will fall over themselves getting in line to sign up for an aqua-house! Energy would be easily procured from tidal power systems and climate control would be easily controlled with temp gradient heat pump systems. Wind power would be an ideal energy source as well and solar would be readily usable too! Great idea. Why wait for 'globalwarming'? I like shrimp!
- SOME YEARS AGO IT WAS SAID THAT JAPAN WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BUILDING A FLOATING CITY.THE THINKING NOW SEEMS TO BE INCLINED TO A SEA LEVEL RISE IN EXCESS OF 40 FEET.With the resultant alteration of the attitude of the earth, by up to one degree, due to the shift in surface weight as the ice melts.
- Oukay oukay ... 1st "if global warming is real" are you for real? If? What about the melting of the polar caps? What about the 'never seen before' heatwaves throughout Australia and the exceptional cold winters in europe? Do you think Global warming is 'open for debate'? Like looking down at the earth and saying No you didn't ... Geez Louise ... But no, we wont live on floating cities, maybe on 1 or 2 spots around europe and russia which wont be submerged but after a few years we wont live at all. And no, that's not a wild guess or something the eco w*nkers came up with ...
- If Global Warming was real, there would not be any people in the future to live on floating cities, and neither would there be anyone to build them, but in any case we could not afford to now. However, when I look out of the window at the outside thermometer which is showing minus 10, I would really like a bit more global warming soon. Should we blame our particularly cold winter on global warming, and maybe the current financial problems as well?
- Global Warming doesn't exist. I just wish the people that have been brain washes by this global warming scam would take and wakeup. It’s not true and don’t exist. It was crated as a money maker for people like Al Gore he himself makes millions on global warming each year. We now have proof that it is a lie by U.S. employed NASA scientist. Please my link! http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/117100.aspx
- No because global warming doesn't exist but if it did we wouldn't be alive and like in the day after tomorrow there was land and etc for us to live on. Dude my word of adivce stop listening to Al Gore or get all gored up yourself!!!!!!!
- bahahahaha! GLOBAL WARMING? In my father's day it was globaly COOLING! OMG the environment is out to get us! no WAIT, Its OUR fault! we are such martyrs!
- Global warming is real...it's a proven fact. As for floating cities...no. But we can be mindful of our carbon emissions.
- As soon as they can figure out how to grow corn under water.
- Of course global warming is real, as one part of the cycle of climate change that the planet is permanently going through. It is the 'man made, catastrophe soon' part of the story that is not credible. During the last decade average global surface temperatures have dropped 0.2C, and in mid-altitude they have dropped 0.6C. It is this mid-altitude level where the greenhouse gasses have most effect. So as the temperatures are dropping there, despite the continued increase in man made emissions of carbon dioxide, the anthropogenic global warming hypothesis must be wrong
- Good news, The sea level is predicted to rise 10m max and I live above that level. There will still be land, you might want to think about moving too the mountains ;)
- I have a boat so looks like I will be for a while until I start wondering about my 5 portions of fruit and veg a day lol
- Global warming is a fact. We need to accept it. Implement cleaner technology for energy-production AND save energy! Check out the book "The Hot Topic". It is easy to read, and give a "down-to-earth" overview of the facts. Also check out the assessment report given as a source.
