Is indianapolis a good city to live in?
I am considering a college there and want to know if its a good city. And how technologically advanced it is. I live in Kansas City so i know the basics of big city life. But we have some bad areas....how prominent are the "ghettos" in indy?

- I have lived in Indianapolis all of my life. I love it here. Everything is close by. There is great shopping downtown, and the main circle is beautiful at night!!!!!!!!!! I highly suggest going to college here! Edit: There isn't really a ghetto area. Just out of the downtown area is a poorer area, but it isn't a bad area. I just wouldn't suggest staying in those neighborhoods. Downtown is awesome! If you are going to be in Indiana, I would suggest Carmel. That is where I live and it is great. It is more expensive to live here, but there isn't any ghetto at all. Small amount of crime, like any other city.
- I have been living with my family for teh past 3 years .. seems a good city .. Ghettos are not prominent .
- Indianapolis is a great city to live, but about 30 min north from indy are better cities like fishers and carmel. anyways, indianapolis is moderately technologically advanced. no subways though. 30 min south from indy is greenwood. greenwood can be a pretty ghetto-y place also some part of indianapolis can be too, just depends wht part u live in. the closest thing ull find in a big city that u'll find in indy is downtown. even though i've lived here all my life, i dont consider indianapolis anything compared to a big city. places to hang out are restricted to movies and malls (and the occasional skating rink, bowling alley). places to eat r mostly fast foods, franchise restaurants, chinese restaurants, and the occasional sushi, fancy steak and seafood place, and bar
- Indianapolis is not really known as a college town per se, but if you want to make the most of your college experience I would say to look at a place in the near north or east side of downtown. Lockerbie Square is a really cool historic district, and Massachusetts Avenue has a really great arts scene. I don't know about KCs transportation but Indy's is all bus, no light rail. It's a pretty auto-centric city. They are developing some amazing bike trail systems but they're not the most useful in the winter. Carmel and Fishers are ideal family places but a good 45 minute to IUPUI and Butler, and farther yet from Univ of Indianapolis. Technologically advanced - Indiana is home to a lot of inventors and great Universities- IU in Bloomington and Purdue in Lafayette. HP and Thompson electric have offices on the north side. They have an awesome new Public Library downtown that is truly a technological wonder.
- its very cheap and like everything cheap its very low in quality nowhere near nyc or miami.
