1. I thought Malta was a really fun place. It's very safe, an island in the sea with really nice people and some great shorelines. It is a bit pricey, so it's good money is no object. I liked Cairo a lot too, it's a huge city that's safe overall. People are very friendly there too. I liked Athens and Istanbul when I was there, but that was 30 years ago...
2. The southern coast of Portugal is awesome. The little tourist towns (Faro, Lagos, Sagres)are friendly and safe. There are a ton of little cafes and bars where you might be able to find a job... The Andalusian Peninsula is beautiful and anywhere along the Spanish Mediterranean coast would be worth checking out. Buena suerta!
