best places to live

Where in America can I move to find friends, I want to eventually leave this city?

I live in a city of about 1 million people. I do not like it here. I can't make any real friends. The city is to family oriented. If you have no family you are in bad luck. I get along well with people, hang out at a local restaurant. I know them, they seem to love me, but after I leave I am back to being alone. Same way with church. Christmas time it is just family with everyone. 4th of July, family, family get togethers, thanksgiving, family baby showers, family. I am sick of family only. People say what are you going to do thanksgiving? I say go to Cracker Barrell. They say don't you have any family. Then end of conversation. I am sick of hearing about their family get togethers. I told a girl at work, I sure would like to come to your baby shower. I get along well with her, but never heard anymore except that it was almost all family, except for a couple of friends she had in high school. I know a lady from Boston years ago, I use to work for her. She hated it here. She said she had no friends, to family oriented, she said. She left here and said she would never come back. Is there anywhere in America that is not so family oriented as here. I would like a town of at least 10,000, I don't want it so small where everyone knows everyone. I just want to find a place to belong, but then I wonder, is this the way it is everywhere in the U.S.A. Thank You

  1. Bellevue or Bellingham, WA. Bellevue is 5 miles east of Seattle across Lake Washington and has over 100,000 people and has great weather and a spectacular community. Also Bill Gates lives there, but it's not a fancy just for the rich people. Also there's a lot to do outdoors and has a shopping and activities. Bellingham is near the Canadian border and is ranked the SECOND BEST PLACE TO LIVE IN THE NATION.
  2. OMG!!!! guess what I hate it in Boston, if you ask me I like the cape everyone is sweet..
  3. I would think that if you tried hard enough that you could find friends anywhere you moved.
  4. Have you ever though of joining a group. Like wine tasting, eating out, walking and nature or even a dance class ie salsa or something. You never know you might meet someone there.
