So why do people in big cities vote Democrat?

Don't say its Blacks and Hispanics. Big cities have a lot of White people too, and sure they are Liberal but in a detailed answer please tell me WHY they vote Democrat? And why does New England vote Democrat?

1. The Majority of your major metro's are very very liberal leaning, and I'm sorry you don't want us to say black and Hispanics, but that is a major contributing factor and polls indicate this whether you want to hear it or not. God bless.
2. Their living conditions are poor and expect to be assisted by the government for everything/ they are lazy. Republicans don't believe in most welfare, because hard work should be rewarded over laziness.
3. I don't know anything about New England but the population of big cities tend to be a majority of poor, under employed and downtrodden people. Therefore, they are more likely to vote for the party that is perceived as the party on their "side".
4. The more educated a person is, the more likely it is that they vote liberal/progressive. Cities tend to be filled with people who are more educated than people who live rurally. It really is that simple.
5. In a very, very general answer, Large Urban Areas attract many people who are below the poverty level, who are looking for some means of making money. Now, the Liberal side of American politics has always supported high welfare benefits and cheaper healthcare, two things people who are out of work and/or below the poverty level like very, very much. 2+2=4
6. I'm sure people will say they are poor and want handouts, but the poverty rate in this country is highest in southern rural areas.
7. good question. maybe due to the fact that they see SO many kinds of people. seeing that many homeless must play a toll on their consciences. they are also a lot of radicals in big cities trying to get noticed. they are exposed more to gay people. i think that the dems in big cities have a tighter grasp on reality, in comparison to small town folks who have such a small perspective on life.
8. Its always been that way, the more populated areas vote Democratic and the more rural areas vote Republican. Looks to me like the ones in town are more informed and more intelligent.
9. Whites in big cities encounter Blacks/Hispanics more often than Whites in rural areas. Many Whites in the inner cities have close friendships with minorities. Hence, they are more likely to share their political views. New England has strong cultural ties with Quebec which is probably the most leftish place in North America.

13. New England, where I live, has the least proportion of blacks and hispanics. In Maine they don't even account for 1%. Maine is a blue state. New England is also the least religious place in the nation. Higher education and open mindedness tend to go liberal. Look at Europe.
14. The economic crisis hit them hard. They want change. A report in today's Los Angeles Times reveals that most Republican states such as South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, and Texas have not seen the recession yet.

17. Look what the economic crises is doing to all the big cities, and if the economy get worse the situation in cities are going to get much worse, like riots and higher poverty, and homelessness. Homelessness in cities have been rising in the last years, and voting democrat is not the solution to ending these problems.
18. Because many people who live in large cities are exposed to various people from myriad backgrounds. Therefore, tolerance is not just a catchphrase for people in these areas, it's a way of life.
19. I actually have 2 theories on this: 1. Democrats have made themselves appear to be the "feeling party" or the "intellectual party". The feel good aspect attracts the women of the party, and since it's platform is kept at it's easiest level, they feel intelligent discussing it. 2. Democratic men, attracted by the women of the democratic party (low self esteem and low morals), align themselves on the left for the easy feels and low IQ conversation. The easiest way to make you feel like you're fixing something is to simply throw money at it. That way, when it still doesn't work, you have something tangible on a record that said you tried to do something. Now, as to why it seems that New England always votes for democrats, I think it is because they have always voted that way, and they know no other way. How else do you explain someone like Ted Kennedy getting arrested as many times as he was re-elected, and yet he is still in office. (BTW, did anyone else notice they cut out part of his brain? Me neither, I saw no difference.) On a side note... have you noticed that all the places where liberal democrats gather has the worst unemployment, housing, crime, and healthcare? That is why, at least up until this year, the American people didn't elect presidents from liberal America. If you want to see why I oppose Obama, just look at how his policies effect Detroit, NYC, Pittsburg, Cleveland, Boston, and every other liberal ran city in America.
20. Whites make up less than 50% of the population in most U.S cities with a population of over 500,000 people so ofcourse it has to do with the fact that Nonwhites are the majority in these cities.
