WOW! CAN WE LIVE THERE?? Do You Know the Absolute Best Place to Live?
Hello, all! We are very weary of the place where we now live. It is very hot, even in March it has reached 100+ degrees on occasion. The weather is quite funky. Humid. Tons of allergens. And the cost of living has almost doubled in the last 15 years. Here is what we are looking for: A beautiful scenic place with all 4 seasons and snow in the winter. Affordable cost of living. Excellent universities nearby. Not a large city. Would prefer a smaller town. Cultural diversity. Museums, zoo, theater - both community and professional. Home or really nice apt rentals for around $800 mo. Excellent professional employment opportunities. Excellent hospitals. Many people may bike to work. Prefer bike paths. Very low crime rate. A liberal community. I want to hear from people who are actually living in a town like this or have lived in a similar place or have visited one or more frequently. That would be ideal. FYI - 'cause I know you will want to know, where we currently reside is San Antonio, TX. (Don't believe Chamber of Commerce info no matter where you are. Ha!) PS - I know that some people love San Antonio. There are many wonderful things about it for them. It is just not our town. We have tried hanging in there since 1990, but are ready to move on down the road. :-) MIKE - you need to re-read your email. Next question, is there enough space left for any legitimate or helpful answers?

- Don't go to Michigan
- I lived in Cleveland when I attended Case Western Reserve University. I would say that Cleveland appears to meet your requirements. However when I was there I found Cleveland to be a rather miserable place to live. If I had it to do over again I would not go there. Even though Case Western Reserve University is an excellent University, there are many other excellent Universities in this nation. I do not think that it is worth putting up with Cleveland to go to Case Western Reserve University, even though they also have an excellent Orchestra that also performs at Severance Hall, and The Cleveland Clinic is one of the best Hospitals in The World. I say this to suggest to you that you thoroughly investigate the place before you pick up an move. If I had known what I now know about Cleveland I wouild have found another University to Attend rather than live in Cleveland. On the surface Cleveland seemed like a wonderful City. The propaganda that I received from Case Western Reserve University made it seem like a wonderful place. Once I got there I discovered that it was a hellhole. As far as great places to live that meet your criteria, I have not lived in any places that meet your criteria. I suspect the area around the University of Utah in the State of Utah is worth investigating, though.
- Welcome 2 Afghanistan.
- I think I would vote for Boulder or Golden, CO. Both are highly rated, esp Boulder, in all the 2008 statistics. Boulder is in the top 3. This includes lower crime rate, beautiful country, decent cost of living, 4 distinct seasons, lovely weather - tornadoes rare, flooding zilch. The only thing that could hamper you is the occasional blizzard, which comes anywhere it snows. Excellent hospitals and schools. Lots of free things to do: long, winding bike path through the city, you are snug up right against the mountains, so hiking, skiing, major sledding or just rolling down hills, camping, mountain biking, all are just a few minutes away. Many types of businesses, some very unique. Very liberal town. Home of U of Colorado. Good sports teams from the U and from Denver, which is just a few miles away. Culturally diverse. Sounds like what you are looking for. What do you think?
