best places to live

Which European cities have a lot of wind, are often covered in grey clouds, have lots of rain and get cold?

Any information on these cities would be very helpful. I'm considering moving to Europe and I love cold/wet/cloudy/dark weather. Paris, London, Milan, Madrid, Barcelona, Zürich, Lisbon, Rome, Frankfurt am Main, Berlin, Copenhagen, Holland (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague), Nice and Marseille. Thanks.

  1. London, pick London. I went to Boarding School there for a year, and it rains alot. If you love the wet and cold, pick London. Or anywhere in England for that matter.
  2. Denmark. I'm danish and i know my Denmark!
  3. Paris, London, Frankfurt, Berlin, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and the Hague get rain and clouds for sure. With the rest it is more likely to have snow in winter or sun in summer. Non of the cities you mention will have sub-zero Fahrenheit temperatures regularly, so not cold in that respect. But before you make many more plans, consider if moving to Europe is a real possibility, as getting the paperwork sorted is not easy. Unless you are an European national you are not likely able to move. Only getting student visa is possible in some cases.
  4. The cities in southern France, Spain, Portugal and Italy are warm and fairly sunny compared to the others on your list. In my experience, Copenhagen and Amsterdam are especially rainy, but get very warm in summer. If you really want cool, grey and rainy, Scotland and the west coast of Norway are probably your best choices. I live in Norway (previously Scotland) and both are much cooler (temperature-wise) and stormier than any of the other cities you mention. For comparison, yearly rain average in inches: London - 23 inches Copenhagen - 26 inches Amsterdam - 31 inches Glasgow - 76 inches Bergen - 88 inches Since you are Australian (and young), your best option for coming over would be a working holiday or student visa. Any other sort of visa is unlikely without higher education and work skills.
  5. Copenhagen, Bergen, Amsterdam/Rotterdam/The Hague, London. You could also add Galway and Glasgow to your list If you want cold, wet weather forget Milan, Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon, Rome, Nice or Marseilles - these are the cities people like me who live in London and formerly lived in Copenhagen travel to to get warm weather and sun
