Where is the best place to live in sydney?

I am moving to sydney in January and want to know where is the best place to live? I am after an area as close to the centre as possible but quiet and safe at night. Any indications of wha i would be able to get for my money rent wise would be appreciated!!

  1. shelly bay was quite nice
  2. I'm actually a Real Estate Agent in North Sydney, it's great here 5min to the city, harbour views etc. Pay about $350 AUD a week for a mod 1 bed apartment. Same price will get you 2 bedroom unit in the Eastern Suburbs, Bondi Junction etc. Louder over that side with a lot of English & Irish nearby at Coogee. Cheers !
  3. Killara North Shore
  4. Glebe and Newtown just west of the city are great suburbs to live in. They have a village atmosphere and are generally safe places. Sydney University is between them. Look at the classified advertisements in the Sydney Morning Herald on a Saturday - http://www.smh.com.au - to compare rental prices in different suburbs.
  5. Redfern is an up market district close to the city centre and becoming very popular indeed. Housing is very affordable also.
  6. hey you might want to see this link http://australia.emigratenz.org/best-sydney-suburbs.html. or if you can't find a place yet, i recommend you stay in Sovereign Inn Crows Nest even for a couple of days while looking for a place to settle. It has close proximity to business areas, shopping, dining and entertainment centres plus you won't have a hard time getting from one place to another since public transports are always available there. you don't need to worry about spending huge because hotel accommodation there is really affordable.
  7. Manly all the way.Not too sure about prices and stuff, should be able to get a little house or apartment for decent money i reckon.
