How do I ask a girl to be your girlfriend if we live in two different states?

I live in Colorado and she lives in New Mexico. We see each other about 4 times a year for about 9 hours total. The next time I see her is in November. We both like each other a very large amount. Now I want to ask her to be my girlfriend but im afraid of what she may say because we live away from each other. Does anyone have any advice or know how I can ask her?
