What are the best small cities in Colorado?

We are looking for a city that has between 30,000 and 40,000 population, and hopefully only 30 - 45 minutes drive to one of the larger cities in the state.

1. Durango Colorado is bomb diggity.
2. maybe fort collins?? that would be a little over an hour from denver..or boulder is about 20 minutes from denver..other than that there are no options--the rest of the state is mostly small seasonal towns with no large cities nearby
