Between TN, South Carolina, and N.Carolina best place to live?

Thinking of moving to one of these states. Thinking of Hendersonville, TN. Want a small town near a big city. Anyone with a good town in any state would be helpful. We are a young family of three with good jobs that can go anywhere.

1. South Carolina near Charleston is great but N Carolina has the whole research triangle which has great schools and people want to live in that smart growth area. Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill.
