What is the best southern California city to live in for a new young couple, eventually starting a family?

Ps: please not LA. I hate LA because of the traffic. It drives me NUTS! We are 24 and 25 Please explain why you suggest it :)

3. Carlsbad, just north of San Diego. My son and his family have lived there for 10 years. Very family friendly and good schools, and convenient for going north to LA or south to San Diego. Very bicycle-friendly! My son and his wife often ride their bikes to work. Not as expensive as some areas, but expensive enough! Hope you both already have very good jobs!
