What are the best places to live in MD?

My boyfriend and I might be moving to MD, and I was wondering what are the nicer areas to live in. He has to work up in Northern MD (near the PA border) and I need to work in DC area. We were looking at places in between, possibly in the Frederick area. We're looking for something near a city, but in a safe community. Any suggestions or opinions?

1. If your boyfriend is working near Harrisburg living in Frederick would be an insane commute for him, honestly your best bet would be very close to the city(baltimore) if you could get a place in Mt Vernon its relatively safe and you could walk to the train, you could take the mark train to DC and he could take 83N to work. Any other way one of you is going to have a hellish commute.
