What are the best cities in California to live?

I currently live in Northern california, in a small city, and I hate small cities. SO, I need a place that is pretty cold & is in a big city with lots to do. Also the place has to have really nice housing. I really want to stay in California.

1. San Francisco is the only city where it is cold and there is lots to do.
