best places to live

Best cities to live in?

I am almost certain I want to live down south. I will be a school teacher, and the job market is another thing I took into consideration. In the running so far is Dallas, Miami, and Atlanta. I don't want want to live in a place with those horrific hurricanes,...so maybe Miami might be out of the running after all. I don't want to live in a place with earthquakes, so LA was definately out the question. I would consider the east coast maybe....Boston, Baltimore, and etc. I live in the Midwest and the weather is not harsh at all, even the tornadoes are mild to barely noticable where I live. Weather one of the many deciding factors in finding a new city to start my life in. Help...what do you think? Any advice will be helpful!!

  1. xalapa, Veracruz in Mexico - freaking fantastic place to live for Americans...
  2. Charleston, S.C.
  3. Central FL- it's less crowded than South FL, a little more inland, and the only time we've had problems with hurricanes was 2004- the freak year. DeLand, DeBary, Orange City all worth looking into. Seminole CO is too expensive, so I recommend Volusia. (But NOT Deltona.)
  4. San Diego CA is noted as America's finest city, for good reason. Within the country, weather is reported for 4 distinct regions, the coast (downtown), inland valleys, mountains and desert. So within about 40 miles there is a wide variety of climate. The sun shines most of the time and the climate is moderate and comfortable. There is a trolley system, and bus system, that is excellent and reasonable and can get you most anywhere so there is no need to have a car if you don't want to drive. There is lots to do, and the cultural climate is superb. Mexico is a short visit (on the same trolley system) for variety in another country. And you can take the train to LA, about a 2 hour drive, for all the action of Hollywood, Burbank, Santa Barabara and so forth. This is a college town with excellent uniersities. So the attitude is geared to teen and young adult. The beaches are free and open all year, and crowded so something must be right. Come visit first, and make up your own mind. I did last year and have no regrets at all.
  5. I would say Raleigh, NC is a good place to stay. It's a fast moving city and it's continuing to grow. Also Charlotte.
  6. There is not a city on the face of the earth that is like Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh also has some of the highest paid public school teachers in the country. The weather is not that of San Diego but there are four distinct seasons. It can get humid in the summer but it's never has hot as the southwest. there has been a blizzard or two but its not dc. Pittsburgh is often referred to as the littlest big city or the biggest little city (it depends on who you talk to) It can sometimes feel like everyone knows everyone which certainly does not happen in cities twice its size. But it is one of few cities with that small town feel that has so many big city amenities. The city is made up of almost 90 unique neighborhoods. There are 3 pro sports teams including the 5 time superbowl champion Steelers. In business the city is the headquarters of 7 fortune 500 companies. The education is the cream of the crop both public schools and universities like Pitt and CMU which are world renowned. The strip district was once and industrial zone. Today it is home to open air markets and wholesale warehouses by day and a club scene at night. The south side was once steel mills and glass factories. Today it is home to college students, young professionals, and hip retired folks. It also has some very unique shops that you won't find anywhere else. There are designer stores like Kenneth Cole and Puma. There is also on average about 4 bars on every block... It's a fun area There is a thriving cultural district that boasts a venue that was rated the #1 venue in the country by Billboard magazine and today is the 5th busiest theater in the U.S. according to ticket sales (The benedum center) The district is home to six full time theaters, an opera company, a world renowned symphony, several full time art galleries, the school for the performing arts and some really unique restaurants. http://www.pgharts.org Top museums include the Heinz History Center which is partnered with the smithsonian. The Carnegie has the world's kargest collection if dinosaur specimens. The Warhol is the largest single artist museum in the world. http://www.carnegiemuseums.org/carnegie/... When moviong to any city it is my experience that you have to learn about it before deciding to hate it... Its just not fair otherwise. Pittsburgh has a rich history beginning with the french and indian war. It was once the industrial headquarters of the world (today it is not at all industry based and quite clean). No longer making steel Pittsburgh is one of the top medical and tech cities in the country. Pittsburgh really is a great city. It is not new york, or chicago but it has never tried to be. The suburbs are some of the best and most family oriented while the city is full of cultre and a great nightlife... check out these sites http://www.kiplinger.com/personalfinance... http://www.pghliving.com/index2.php... http://www.pittsburghroars.com
