best places to live

So what is Moutain Home, AR really like?....Should I move there?

Im orriginally from a small town in OK, and my wife from a middle sized town in FL. We currently live in a growing city in Sebring, FL. The city we live in now is primiarily a retirement city. My wife is in the medical field and has an opportunity to get a traveling job that would bring us to Mountain Home, AR for at least 13 weeks and possibly more. We only have 3 days to make this decision, so we want to find out as much as possible about the place. We like to do some things, but spend alot of time just hanging out at home. Here we like to go bowling, or to the pool hall.....Anything like that there? We like to go out to eat some.....not Micky D's and stuff. I mean comercialized or hometown sitdown is preferred. (Chili's, Ruby Tuesday, or mom n pops kind of places) Is there anything to do here? Im a substitute teacher that works with pre-k and k-5 ese students. I would like to do the same there, but Im not sure about the education system there. Any info/help would be appreciated!

  1. You may find that teachers' salaries are low in Arkansas. You may also find that there are lots of retirees in that region. You can get info on the demographics, climate, etc.at sites like these: http://www.epodunk.com/cgi-bin/genInfo.php?locIndex=11636 http://realestate.yahoo.com/Neighborhoods/detail.html?csz=Mountain%20Home,ID Another interesting source: http://encyclopediaofarkansas.net Type Mountain Home or Baxter county in the search box. Information is historical and cultural, not demographic. 43 of Arkansas' 75 counties are "dry". Ironically, the "dry" counties have higher DWI fatality rates, probably due in part to the extra distance that people drive to get liquor.. http://www2.potsdam.edu/hansondj/InTheNews/DrinkingAndDriving/20060517124659.html You can check on the presence of your favorite restaurant chains by going to their websites. And finally, there's nothing like a personal visit to get a better idea about whether it's a good fit for your family.
