What are the most happening cities in Florida and California, both in terms of gen. culture & the indie scene?

I'm an artist and musician interested in moving to Florida or California. I like big cities, but don't want to live in one. 1 or 2 hours away would be good. I'm into the nightlife -- great danceclubs where you can actually feel comfortable, places with Style but not too pretentious or ritzy. I'm into shows, the likes of the Shins / Decemberists. Just drove 600+ miles to see Radiohead at Bonnaroo last week -- I'm 25, and this should give you a good sense of the things I'm into. Where do like-minded people move to in Florida & California? Where is the youth scene unmistakably alive, but somewhat of a well-kept secret? Maybe you live there, maybe you've toured there, maybe you've visited, maybe you've simply heard of a place ... Let's get the ultimate list going, cause I'm sure I'm not the only one looking to relocate--

2. Miami is hip and sexy. tampa is fun, orlando is busy, and well thats it. san fran is nice for indie culture, and gayness, san diego i dunno. l.a is superficial, and compton and watts, stay away from there! Arizona has lots of indie things going on there.
3. If are into being a hippie relaxing stuff go to CALI If are into being a party animal, disco,clubs fu cking on the beach, a lot drugs, etc... GO TO MIAMI "south beach"
