Best places to live near Cleveland, Ohio?

I'm considering a move to the Cleveland area (for a job in Mayfield Heights). Where are the best places to live in and near Cleveland?

1. Mayfield Heights is on the east side so you'll probably want to stay on the east side (I 480 can be horrible at rush hour). So on the east side I would say top suburbs would be Shaker Heights (beautiful architecture for the homes and scenery) and Cleveland Heights (more beautiful architecture but also has a lot of diverse shops and diverse down to earth people). Here's some views on others: The Solon, Beachwood, Pepper Pike and that whole area is the Rich people area and a bit snooty if you ask me. But if you like the SUV driving, mochachino drinking, prada wearing, JAP lifestyle then that's where you want to be. (no offense to anyone who lives there. It is a generalization and one that all Clevelanders know about. Chill out and don't get offended). Mayfield area is fine too. It's either a lot of blue collar family homes or a lot of single professionals in apartment complexes with a whole bunch of stores all up and down Mayfield road (but very congested driving with all that shopping). I'm not too familiar with the more north easter suburbs like Lyndhurst or Euclid but they are similar to Mayfield in a lot of ways (blue collar families, middle income). I would stay away from Maple Heights and Warrensville area. Some of inner city attitudes have made their way in those areas. But Bedford and the Bedford side of Bedford Heights (I 271 is the line that divides the sides of Bedford Heights) are still good. It all depends on what you are looking for an what you can afford. 2. Mayfield Hts area isn't a bad place to live. Mentor is also a nice place to commute to Mayfield. Heres Mentor's website: http://www.cityofmentor.com/ Mentor's slogan is after all "It's Better in Mentor!"
3. Depends how much you want to spend and if you have a family. Do you want to buy or rent? There are some huge mansions in ShakerHeights area, which are for rent pretty cheap (the owners can't get ride of them, so they rent them out, hoping for better weather). With a family, you may want to move to the area around Solon, Twinsburg, low crime, very family orieneted. If you are single, you could look at something on the waterfront near the entertainment areas. Take a tour with a real estate agent, just call up somebody, they are going to jump over themselves to help you. Howard Hanna is the biggest Agency. Moving to Cleveland, poor thing.
4. Depends on if you are renting or buying, how much you want to spend, if you have kids, etc. Shaker Heights and Cleveland Heights are great areas for older homes. But property taxes are really really high. Does the company offer relocation assistance? If so you will probably be hooked up with a Realtor or company that will tour you in different areas. If you're working in Mayfield heights I would definitely stay on the east side somewhere as that I-271 and I-480 traffic can be a real pain -especially in the winter!

7. Lived on the East side for 20+ years. Bought a house on the West side 6 years ago and I like it much better, even though most of my friends and family are on the East side! Hope that helps.
8. I have lived in Lyndhurst for 4 years. (Very close to Mayfield Heights.) Very nice town, lots of housing for sale, family oriented neighborhood. Down fall.. Cuyahoga county has very high taxes, people are moving out b/c of that. Good luck!
9. If you don't mind the comute the Mansfield Painsville are is VERY nice and lots of hidden local treasures. WEnt to college there for four years and really enjoyed the area. Good horse country too, if you enjoy that.
10. Most of the East Side is going ghetto until you get out to about Beachwood and beyond. For all of you sensitive people out there, ghetto does NOT mean black, it means dirty and crime-ridden. When I lived in Shaker it was nice. Now much of it is an overpriced dump. Euclid, South Euclid, Wickliffe, much of the same. Cleveland/Cleveland Heights, etc., why bother. I'd move to the West Side like Farout, or else just move way out East (Chagrin Falls or beyond) or else choose a different city altogether.
