  1. In Dade County, the north-south divider is Flagler Street and the east-west divider is Miami Avenue. The county is divided into northwest, northeast, southwest, and southeast sections. Every address in the county is preceded by one of these prefixes (NW, SW, etc.). The exception is Hialeah, which has its own street numbering system. A handy trick I learned when I moved here to tell which streets go which directions: the acronym CRAP. Courts, Roads, Avenues, and Places all go north-south. Everything else (Street, Terrace, Lane, whatever) generally goes east-west. As for what city you're in, it's like anywhere else--experience and looking at the map when you're not sure.
  2. Schroedinger's cat is generally right -- as to Dade County. In other counties Aves & Streets may run differently. Although Street designations are uniform, numbering is not . The cities in Miami-Dade that DO NOT share the common numbering are Hialeah; Coral Gables (which uses mostly names), Miami Beach & all towns & streets East of Biscayne Bay,(whichs starts at 1st St & runs North to the County line.) and Homestead & Florida City which have their own numbering quadrant.
