Best city for software jobs and reasonable housing. Need to move out of bay area. Chicago, Boston etc?

The housing here in bay area is too expensive.. Condos can go anywhere from 450K to 650K.. I am trying to see if I can move out to a different city where there are software jobs + housing is not that expensive. Chicago is on my list (since some suburbs are reasonable). What about other cities on east coast?
