Comparison of UK and US cities?

Why is it that us cities have lots of sky scrapers wheras uk cities of the same population have little or none?where do the UK put all their offices?!(such comparisons : New york and London, Dallas and birmingham, Coventry and jersey city?!

  2. Good question, I figured they had tall building and sky scrapers. Maybe they build down deep with in the Earth like mole people. Or maybe none of those A holes have jobs and don't require big buildings to house their offices.
  3. The key variables are Geography and Geology. New York City is built on a bunch of islands. As a result, land is limited and at a premium. Since growth can't be accomodated by spreading out, you have to build up. Manhattan in particular is where all of the landmark towers are (or were), and in terms of area, this is the smallest island. Also, you have to have access to stable bedrock in order to build skyscrapers. I don't know that the soil is suitable in London to support structures that big.
