Where is the best places in Florida to treasure hunt?

I know there is a part of Florida on the east coast that they call the Treasure Coast....but where is it? Where is the best place to comb the beaches with metal detectors to find possible old Spanish coins and other artifacts? Is it in the northern parts, or more southern? I am possibly going to St. Augustine soon, and I wasn't sure if this would be a good place to try a metal detector out or not? Thanks. Actually, st. augustine is the oldest city in the United States.
