1. There are nearly unlimited opportunities because there is so much need. It really depends on what you like to do and what expertise you have to offer. Sierra Club is terrific (and fun) if you're interested in the environment. Your local hospital, zoo or animal shelter could really use help. The Red Cross always needs volunteers to work in shelters during hurricanes and for many other needs (they have great training). Check your local United Way's website (link below) - you can probably sign up to be notified when volunteer opportunities are open in specific types of work that you'd like to do.
